Carat Says Yes
About

A calmer, clearer way to choose the ring and plan the proposal

Independent, expert guidance for the ring, the proposal, and the yes.

The Carat Says Yes is an independent publication about engagement rings and proposals — written for the person in the middle of the decision, not for the brands selling to them. The 4Cs, lab-grown versus natural, settings and metals, budgets, the proposal itself, appraisals and insurance: it can feel like a hundred decisions arriving at once. Our job is to make it feel like one clear thing at a time — what to do first, what truly matters, and how to keep it feeling like you.

We are gemologically rigorous and independent of the trade. Our guidance comes from grading standards, published pricing, and the gemologists and jewelers who do this work — and we are honest about cost and trade-offs. No pressure, no filler, no sales pitch — just accurate, tested advice you can actually use.

What we cover

How we work

Gemologically accurate

We get the gemology right. The 4Cs, grading reports, lab-grown versus natural, metals and durability — we define the terms before we use them, check them against the standards graders actually use, and correct the myths the counter relies on.

Independent of the trade

The Carat Says Yes is written for the buyer, not the brands selling to them. Our recommendations are editorially independent, we take no payment to praise a seller, and any commercial link is labeled and kept out of the advice itself.

Sourced from the primary record

We build guidance from primary sources — grading and certification bodies, published pricing, and the practitioners who do this work at the bench. We cite what we rely on and tell you honestly what is worth it and what is not.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Spot an error? Email editor@caratyes.com and we'll review it promptly.

Frequently asked

What is The Carat Says Yes?

The Carat Says Yes is an independent publication about engagement rings and proposals. We turn a high-stakes, jargon-heavy purchase into clear, unbiased guidance you can act on — the advice no retailer has any reason to give you.

What does it cover?

We cover diamonds and gemstones (the 4Cs, lab-grown vs natural, shapes and colored stones), ring styles and settings, ring budgets and financing, where to buy (online retailers, local jewelers, custom and vintage), ethical and sustainable sourcing, proposals, ring sizing, care, appraisals and insurance, celebrity engagement rings, and what comes after the yes. Alongside our reporting, we publish in-depth buying guides and honest roundups of the options our readers are weighing.

How do you source and check your advice?

We build guidance from primary sources — gemological grading and certification bodies, published pricing, and the jewelers and gemologists who do this work — and we test it against real cases. We cite what we rely on and are honest about trade-offs and cost.

Are your recommendations independent?

Yes. The Carat Says Yes is editorially independent and reader-first. We take no payment to recommend a seller or a stone, and any commercial link is labeled and kept out of the advice itself. Our job is to help you decide, not to make a sale.
